BIOS
Alicia Sánchez is founder in 1993 of Alicia Sánchez y Compañía: El Teatro de Movimiento, based in Mexico City. Sánchez’s early dance training was with Alwin Nikolais, and she has an extensive background in theatre which she brings to her style she calls "theatre of movement." Her works have been commissioned by the International Historical Center Festival and the Queen’s NY Latino & Cultural Festival, and have been performed in Mexico, the US and Europe. She was included in the list of the 100 most important Mexican artists of the 20th Century.
Incorporating theatre elements and contemporary dance technique, the class warms the body gradually and builds to movement and occasionally vocal phrases that express the body's whole energy.

Also, please join us for a Salon event previewing the new work Alicia Sánchez is creating with CORE Performance Company during her visit. The Salon evening will take place in the Several Dancers Core downstairs studio on Thursday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m., with light refreshments served. The event is free and open to the public.
