contra-tiempo Contra-tiempo’s Artistic Director, Ana Maria Alvarez, combines genres of dance, theater and protest in her choreography and teaching to address cultural and social justice issues. Alvarez has studied, performed and taught all over North America, South America and the Caribbean with various dance schools. including the E. Gwynn Dancers (NC’s A&T State University), Jamaica School of Dance, University of the West Indies (Jamaica), Cutumba Baile Folklorico de Cuba (Santiago de Cuba), Los Pintas de Cordoba (Argentina), Narciso Medina (Cuba) and the Julio Jean Haitian American Dance Theatre (NY, NY). In addition Alvarez worked with the The Urban Bush Women (NY, NY). In May 2005, Alvarez received her MFA in Choreography from UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures, and since then has toured her company, contra-tiempo, to the east coast twice, and most recently to the US/Mexico border.

Nicole Liveratos is artistic director of Gardenhouse Dance and teaches in Atlanta area schools.

Julie Rothschild began studying modern dance in 1983 at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, OH and continued her studies at Colorado College and Ohio State University. She has worked with the Prairie Wind Dancers, aha! Dance Theatre, Miki Liszt Dance Company, Zen Monkey Project, Live Arts Theatre and the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange. In addition to teaching Modern Dance Foundations at UGA, Julie co-directs Floorspace, a movement arts studio located in Athens, and teaches, choreographs, and performs both locally and internationally. She is also a Certified Alexander Technique Teacher.

Lori Teague, Associate Professor of Dance at Emory University earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University in Choreography and Performance. She has been in Atlanta for 15 years collaborating and creating with a diverse group of artists as well as creating work herself.She blends together a study of contact improvisation, Laban/Bartenieff movement studies and improvisational performance when teaching the fundamentals of movement. She really enjoys creating structures that allow the mover to play. She is passionate about social change; involved in outreach programming for youth in under-served communities; and facilitates Fieldwork in the Atlanta community.

Nicole Wesley is a teacher, performer, and choreographer out of Austin, Texas. She received her MFA from Texas Woman’s University and her BFA in Dance from The University of Texas at Austin. Most recently, Nicole completed her certification as a Laban Movement Analyst (CLMA) from the University of Utah in August 2006. Nicole has performed and choreographed throughout the United States and abroad in Indonesia, Germany and Japan. Since arriving in Atlanta in 2003, Nicole has performed with Lori Teague and Zoetic Dance Ensemble and has just formed 21greenlight, a DUET company, with Atlanta artist Candess Giyan.
