Teachers:
Susan Eldridge teaches an advanced movement technique class. Juana Farfan* teaches an advenced movement technique class. Hillary Blake Firestone teaches a detailed and vigorous class focused on the investigation of movement from the inside out. Information drawn from a wide range of techniques and physical practices (including Alexander technique, martial arts, yoga, modern/release dance techniques & contact improvisation) is integrated into a practice that includes consciousness-building exercises/experiential anatomy, repeating movement patterns, floor & standing exercises, and longer phrases. Molly Schneider Perez* teaches a class that explores taking the body off center. Finding the possibilities between vertical and horizontal alignments. There is an understanding of the spiral within one’s own body which motivates the body to move using momentum. In addition to challenging the body in space, there is a focus on gesture. Finding ones own theatrical self through movement and performance. Very athletic and stamina driven, students are encouraged to find the balance of flow and strength, theatrics and athleticism. Get Grounded! Luis Villanueva Duenas is a dancer with Alicia Sanchez y Compania in Mexico City. He will be teaching classes in contemporary movement with teatrical elements, which together make up that company's style "theatre of movement." Patton White's* classes will focus on two main themes: partnering as a method of warming up the body, and physical articulation from the core of the body. Over the course of many weeks, we will build upon skills and abilities that are continually refined. These classes will be informative to both the drop-in attendee as well as those attending multiple sessions. * Member of CORE Performance Company. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10- 11:30 a.m. |
