Class descriptions:

Awareness Through Movement® classes consist of ingenious, gentle movement sequences designed to bring mobility, ease and efficiency to all forms of physical activity through heightened awareness of how the body - and the mind - can function together as an integrated whole. "Feldenkrais has studied the body in movement with a precision that I have found nowhere else." - Peter Brook, Film and Stage Director

Classes meet Monday nights for 8-week sessions in spring, summer, fall and winter, and for a 5-week holiday session in December/January. Cost is $130 for 8 weeks (advance registration); $140 (late registration); or $18 (single class). Classes are open to adults.

Beginning Salsa: This ongoing class is open to any adult and to adolescents with family permission. The cost is $10 per class. A discount is available if paying in advance for a month of classes. Audi Lopez-Rice teaches this class with an emphasis on rhythm, basic steps, and turns. Students may start on any Monday. Audi teaches Puerto Rican style and club style so you become comfortable with both. Pre-registration is helpful but not necessary. No partner needed.

Improvers Salsa: This ongoing class is open to any adult and to adolescents with family permission. The cost is $10 per class. A discount is available if paying in advance for a month of classes. Audi Lopez-Rice teaches this class with an emphasis on partner connections and leadable patterns for social dancing. Pre-registration is helpful but not necessary. No partner needed.

Floor Play Dance Class: The dance taught on Fridays varies each month: we are rotating thru rumba, salsa, waltz, swing, two-step, cha cha, foxtrot and tango. Instructor is Shirley Adams but occasionally we have guest instructors for special workshops. Check the calendar at www.comeoutdancing.com for details. This class is suitable (and fun) for all levels of dancers but format is designed for beginners. Class is informal and welcoming of new dancers, whether single or in couples. Same gender couples always welcome. Everyone learns some simple steps and gets some friendly folks with whom to practice their new skills. Pre-registration is helpful but not necessary. The cost is a sliding scale of $5 to $12 per person, depending on your ability to pay.

Basic Bellydance Technique: This class includes instruction in rhythms, 48 basic movements, transitioning between these moves, traveling, appropriate arm positions, working with music and warm ups and cool downs. These moves are solid basics for any bellydance style- Tribal, Egyptian, Turkish, etc...Taught by the director, Ziah, and members of Awalim, this class is appropriate for all ages. Drop-in rate is $15/class or $96 for a session, student discounts apply.

Neuromuscular Interactive Action (NIA) is a high-energy fitness program that is safe and adaptable to virtually any fitness level. It combines non-impact aerobics, dance and martial arts that integrate aerobic conditioning, balance and flexibility. NIA fully supports the Pleasure Principle: If it feels good - keep doing it. If it hurts - stop. NIA is done in bare feet and completely eliminates repetitive jogging and jumping up and down. It provides three levels of intensity in every movement, a variety in range of motion, and endless user-friendly choreographic movement choices. Relaxation is infused into every movement, establishing dynamic-ease, grounding, connectedness, and moving from center, regardless of speed or intensity. See www.nianow.com for more information.
