Healing Arts program continues through summer

25th Anniversary Season Comes to an End

Several Dancers Core's 25th Anniversary Season has come to an end, so you won't be hearing about any performances again until August. However, we will continue to send out more information about our other programming, including a "studio spotlight" every month about one of our renters who teaches in the studio, and other background information there was no room for during the year.

If you have any questions about SDC that you would like answered, please send them to communications@severaldancerscore.org and we will also answer your questions in upcoming issues of COREography.

Have a great summer!

Studio Spotlight: Shirley Adams

Shirley Adams teaches salsa at the SDC studios Monday evenings and over lunch Tuesdays. Her beginning salsa is from 7-8 pm Mondays, followed by Intermediate from 8-9 pm. She also offers SalsArobics during the lunch break on Tuesdays from 11:45 to 12:15 so if you work nearby, come work it out over lunch!

Cobb County Schools ESOL through movement program

Teaching artists from CORE Performance Company, Juana Farfan and Molly Schneider, completed a pilot program in the Cobb County Schools this week. They have been teaching 6-8th graders whose first language is not English, supplementing the students' Language Arts classes by using movement to illustrate ideas. SDC hopes to expand the very successful program through the school year.

Molly says, "Because language is a barrier between teachers and peers, the more visual approach is helpful for the students.  It allows them to rest their brain from language discomfort and focus on 'doing' through their body not just on paper.  We are not only striving for educational improvement, but also social comfort.  Learning to speak aloud in English comfortably, to interact with peers, and to understand "Americanisms" are all goals as well."
