SDC earns grant from Houston Endowment Inc.

Several Dancers Core is pleased to announce that we have received a grant from the Houston Endowment Inc. for support for the next two seasons. We appreciate the generous support of this organization, helping make our programming possible.

Our collaborating video artist, Maya Ciarrocchi

Maya Ciarrocchi is collaborating with CORE Performance Company on the new piece, Corazón Abriendo (Heart Opening) that will premiere in Houston at the Heinen Theatre on November 17-18, 2006.

MAYA CIARROCCHI is a video designer and installation artist, who accompanied CORE to the rainforests and highlands of Chiapas, Mexico last November to record the experience.

Maya performed with CORE during her professional dance career of many years. She currently creates immersive video environments for the stage and exhibition space. Her installations have been exhibited internationally and she has created video and projection design for such choreographers as Wally Cardona, Fred Darsow and Alejandra Martorell. In 2004, Ciarrocchi was selected to create décor for Merce Cunningham’s Events at the Joyce Theater in NYC. Recent projects include video design for Bebe Miller’s Landing/Place, and Donna Uchizono’s Approaching Green, which toured to Diverseworks in Houston earlier this year. Maya holds a BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase and an MFA in Computer Art from the School of Visual Arts.
