CORE Performance Company premieres “Agua Azul: Blue Water”
at the Bayou City Art Festival Downtown
October 14 and 15, 2006

Houston—August 1, 2006—The Art Colony Association, Inc. and Several Dancers Core present the premiere of “Agua Azul: Blue Water” by CORE Performance Company at the Bayou City Art Festival Downtown, Saturday, October 14th and Sunday, October 15th, 2006, beginning at 2 p.m. each day. “Agua Azul” is a site-specific piece that will appear within, around and through the festival grounds. In particular the dancers will perform in the Historic Hermann Square fountain and reflecting pond in front of Houston's City Hall. The performance is free with festival admission.

CORE Performance Company’s “Agua Azul” marks the ninth commission by the Art Colony Association Inc. of CORE’s original, zany, whimsical and sometimes poignant site-specific performance work. More than 200,000 Bayou City Art Festival attendees have been surprised, humored, thrilled and moved to participate in CORE Performance Company’s creations in recent years. “Agua Azul” is a surprising, thrilling, one of a kind original piece, designed and commissioned for the Festival site. The dancers will perform in and around the reflecting pool, a fluid exploration of the quality of water and an experience not too be missed. Aside from drawing inspiration from the qualities of the site, the piece will incorporate some material from the company’s performance Corazón Abriendo (Heart Opening), premiering in Houston on November 17-18 at the Heinen Theater at the Houston Community College Central Campus.

Held each year the second weekend of October, the Bayou City Art Festival Downtown welcomes the arrival of the fall season and has created a new Houston Fine Art tradition. The visitors to the festival have been delighted by the engaging performances that surround them with movement as they enjoy the visual art and the festival atmosphere.

The Historic Hermann Square and Sam Houston Park act as the hub of Festival activities. Tranquility Park serves as a wonderful outdoor food court and home of the Creative Zone interactive art area. The streets surrounding Hermann Square become an outdoor gallery featuring 300 national fine artists including this year’s featured artist, Stephen Dickerson. A multitude of mediums are displayed against the dramatic backdrop of Houston's skyscrapers. Festival grounds are located at City Hall and Sam Houston Park in downtown Houston. Tickets to festival: Adults$8/Children under 12 Free. For more information call 713-521-0133 or visit www.bayoucityartfestival.com.
