CORE Performance Company premieres “Shew! Fly!” HoustonSeptember 25, 2007The Art Colony Association, Inc. and Several Dancers Core present the premiere of “Shew! Fly!” by CORE Performance Company at the Bayou City Art Festival Downtown, Saturday, October 13th and Sunday, October 14th, 2007, beginning at 2 p.m. each day. “Shew! Fly!” is a site-based piece that will appear within, around and through the festival grounds, especially in the Historic Hermann Square with its fountain and pond reflecting the architectural beauty of Houston's City Hall. The performance is free with festival admission of $10 for adults, free for kids 12 and under. CORE Performance Company’s “Shew! Fly!” marks the eleventh commission by the Art Colony Association Inc. of CORE’s original and zany, whimsical and sometimes poignant site-specific performance work. Over 200,000 Bayou City Art Festival attendees have been surprised, humored, thrilled and moved to participate in CORE Performance Company’s creations in recent years. The material for this piece will be adapted from new work the company has made with guest choreographer Alicia Sanchez in Mexico during a creation period in late August and September. Held each year the second weekend of October, the Bayou City Art Festival Downtown welcomes the arrival of the fall season and has become Houston Fine Art tradition. The visitors to the festival have been delighted by the engaging performances that surround them with movement as they enjoy the visual art and the festival atmosphere. The Historic Hermann Square and Sam Houston Park act as the hub of Festival activities. Tranquility Park serves as a wonderful outdoor food court and home of the Creative Zone interactive art area. The streets surrounding Hermann Square become an outdoor gallery featuring 300 national fine artists including this year’s featured artist, Mark Driscoll. A multitude of mediums are displayed against the dramatic backdrop of Houston's skyscrapers. Festival grounds are located at City Hall and Sam Houston Park in downtown Houston.
