Several Dancers Core
Presents Spring Fieldwork Showcase

Houston, March 5, 2007 — Several Dancers Core, in conjunction with The Field, a New York-based artist service organization, presents the Spring Fieldwork Showcase on Thursday, April 12, 2007, 8:00 p.m., at the Houston Community College Central Campus Studio A. Fieldwork is one of Several Dancers Core’s CORE Initiatives, programs that involve the community, in this case Houston’s independent artists, in deepening their experience and education of movement. The Spring Fieldwork Showcase is the culmination of the ten-week Fieldwork process and will feature works-in-progress by participating local artists. After the performance, the audience is invited to meet with the artists and discuss the works presented that day. Tickets for the Spring Fieldwork Showcase are $7.00 and can be purchased at the door the day of the performance.

The Fieldwork workshop is a rigorous 10-week workshop designed to help artists gather information about their work. Meeting each week, artists can show work they are developing and receive feedback from their peers in a supportive environment. This open but demanding process creates an ongoing forum in which artists examine art and challenge themselves to become as expressive as possible in whatever discipline they work. Fieldwork discussions are focused around a specific, facilitated, feedback structure. Fieldwork sessions culminate in an informal showing of developed works that is open to the public.

CORE Initiatives offers Fieldwork in Houston is a part of The Field Forward Network, a program designed to bring The Field (NYC, www.thefield.org) to cities outside New York, including 15 cities in the United States and Tokyo, Japan. As a Field site, Several Dancers Core has been providing The Field’s programming for our communities for ten years. For more information about The Field, go to www.thefield.org.

This Fieldwork session will be facilitated by Neil Ellis Orts, a longtime Fieldwork participant. Neil Ellis Orts is a writer and performer living in Houston, Texas. His short stories have appeared most recently in Windhover, published by the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, and Charmed Lives, an anthology edited by Toby Johnson and Steve Berman. He has performed his short performance pieces at showcases in Chicago, Houston, and Atlanta. In 2006, he launched a small press, neoNuma Arts, with the anthology, Able to... (neonuma.com).
